This past week, the Kabale branch of Uganda Christian University (UCU) suspended six pregnant girls from school, the school defended itself by saying that the students were admitted as Single, that is to say; they were not married and were not supposed to be engaging in fornication or sexual immorality since it is a Christian University and does not allow such sinful acts among its students.
Honestly, that is just the stupidest excuse I heard, more like they are in a high school, how are these girls going to better themselves if you suspend them from school?
Yes, it is understandable that they got pregnant but that is not a reason to throw her out of school, a lot happens during university and even though some people walk out unscathed, they are all lessons learned for life.
Most Christian have a selective thing when it comes to the Bible, we go ahead and choose the verses and principles that will suit into our characters and lifestyle but ignore the rest. We have become too “holier- than- thou” and always assume that Jesus only came for us, yet we are supposed to follow all the Biblical principles.
Well, Jesus died for everyone, he came to save those who are lost because they are the ones that need him most, that is why he sat and communed with prostitutes, thieves and the rest of their lot.
Everyone knows that when Students are at University, most of them will wild out but the reason why they are in school is to
learn to correct their ways and as a Christian university that is built on Biblical beliefs, it should really practice everything that is in the Bible, that is give those girls second chances not throw them out just because they sinned. Let us not use religion to defend our moral high grounds, rather use to as a tool to show God’s love because if you have not sinned, then you have the right to ostracize those who have but we all sin, every single day. I am sure there are staff members in that university who are not married but are engaging in Fornication or married but committing adultery. This is no way a justification of fornication, just pointing out that we are all sinful and all adults have been young before and understand what comes with all that, so it would be better helping these young people, when they stray, you do not give up on them and throw them out of school because being young, unmarried and pregnant is punishment enough.
Fact is, if they were to
check all the students in that university to find any that has not been immoral, they will have to suspend most of the students and stay with a handful.
