Snapchat is a very addictive but entertaining app that even though not so many Ugandans have picked up, is quite popular and makes social sharing versatile.
The App is an idea that came from Evan Spiegel who was offered $3billion by Facebook that he rejected and since then, the App is one of the most used in the world.
The basic concept of Snapchat is that you take a picture, write a caption, set a timer on it (maximum10 seconds) and send it to your contacts, after the picture is seen the picture will vanish.
The App will search your Facebook for contacts to add onto your Chats, even if Snapchat was originally meant for picture sharing and short chats, it has evolved into a full conversations chat for the users.
Snapchat includes a range of features that include messaging and video chat options, instant messaging follows the same principles as sending pictures, once the message is seen it will vanish.
The App also has a timeline where you can post a picture with a story the same way you can send it to a friend and everyone in your contacts can view it with the span of 24 hours and it will vanish after that.
There is an option of replaying videos, add filters, enlarge texts and tell a full story within 24hours, it even fun when you are having a party, you can share your stories in an order that can have all friends view it like a movie.
You can have a live video chat once that small yellow button (available in the chats) turns blue indicting that both of you are available for a video chats. All you have to do is press the blue button and hold your finger to the screen for as long as you want to keep the live video chat open.
With all these features, it is easy to understand why Snapchat is mostly popular among teenagers and those in the early 20s; it holds every form of communication in a simple and easy design.
If you have not tried it yet, you can download Snapchat from your App store. It is available on both Android powered phones and iOS.
The catch with Snapchat, is that the person you chat with can take a snapshot of the story or picture an save it on their phone, but the App will notify you when they do.
Always be careful who you share images of yourself with, for your own safety and privacy.
