Smartphone Addiction

Have you ever gone to a restaurant with your family or just a couple of friends on a night out and you realize that everyone is busy typing away at their phone or just browsing through whatever app that they finding interesting at that time?

You look around and it seems that a half of everyone in the place you are in is on their phone not even trying any hard to enjoy the moment by putting the phone down. We have become those very kind of people who no longer seem to enjoy what is around us or any special moments we have because we are always highly engrossed in our virtual lives, yes of course we are in that age where someone’s online persona is more interesting than their real one, but that does not mean we ignore the real one and just let it be stagnant just because the virtual one needs to grow.

If you are this sort of person who will not ignore their phone notifications for a second, you are always checking for non- existent ones, you prefer your phone to spending time with your loved ones, you go with your phone to the toilet, generally; never put down your phone even when you are driving, YOU ARE ADDICTED TO YOUR PHONE.

If you did not know, an addiction in simple terms is when something controls your whole life, when you cannot go an hour or so without it. Ask yourself this, can you go an hour without your phone? Addiction does not stop at drugs and alcohol alone just in case you did not know, there are people who are addicted to speed, others sex, others phones.

Phone addiction is what most young people or this current generation is going through, we do not want to see it but if you decide to sit back and think about it, everything we do now does revolve around our phones, we are missing out on living a full life every day because our noses are buried in our phones.

Get real with yourself;

It is very rude to be among people making conversations while you are busy typing away on your phone, it shows general dis-interest and disrespect in those you are with. People who care for you will feel neglected and not needed in your life so in the end you might lose them.

Take 30 minutes or an hour and switch off your phone off, take a walk, enjoy nature, play with your kids, talk to your wife or maybe just spend some lone time, anything else other than staring at your phone all day.

When you get home, keep busy with some different activities that do not involve your phone or social media, ignore your emails and relax, your body sometimes needs a few moments off and so does your brain after a long day at work or school and always remember that there is more to life than all those apps on your phone.
