In this generation of rapid internet connection and internet addiction, do you ever ask yourself questions like; “Are we over sharing?” or “Do we over rely on the internet?” So many questions arise from how much we share on the World Wide Web. In a day, one can share enough information for another person to decipher who you are, where you live, what you do and how easy it is to access you, basically we are completely addicted to the internet that we have ceased to believe we can live without it.
Take for one, I always have my GPRS turned on because I have issues with taking directions, one cannot direct me and I get there without a hitch or maybe it’s the
people who direct me that are horrible at directions. But, let’s assume that out there if the movies or Persons of Interest the TV show is accurate, America has a machine that tracks down people easily and maybe if I wrote something that pisses them off, their drones will not have a hard time finding me.
Or let’s assume there is a creepy psychotic pervert on the prowl for females on the internet and can easily track one down after how much I have shared all over the net. There are Apps for everything these days that one can have on the phone, most of these Apps need one to share information to connect or use. I am no skeptic because I use these Apps without questioning anything, as long as they make my work easy. Do you ever ask yourself what they use this information for even if they tell you that they will not divulge whatever you give them to any third party, although the moment you authorize another App to share info from another, that is a third party involved.
When it comes to internet addiction or in this sense phone addiction, I have to admit that I am one of the culprits. I have watched families in a restaurant on a night out for dinner and I am amused, the Parents will be having conversations, then teenagers/young adults/ cooperates are always on the phone, texting, tweeting or something. Shame on us!
Look at a group of young ladies in a restaurant or a bar, half of them will be taking pictures of everything in the vicinity, the recent most annoying habit is taking pictures of their food. It
always amazes me when I see people who always decide to leave the comfort of their beds at home, go to a hung-out at night then spend the rest of the night on their phones informing people about how much they are enjoying themselves.
We have stopped having personal human interactions amongst ourselves because technology has made communication very easy for us, a click and you are talking to someone miles away instantly, people seem to actually trust the internet more than their own kin. I appreciate it a lot, but at times I think the more technology develops, the more people will stop appreciating the things that matter to them most. You spend your whole life on the internet as the world changes around, you don’t notice because you are absorbed in what you read but not what you want
to see around you and forget that you can actually spend time with your family, the ones who are next door or go take a walk, appreciate nature.
“I fear the day that technology will surpass human interaction, the World will have a generation of idiots..”- Albert Einstein.
