The beautiful Miss Lupita Nyong’o
won an Academy Award this past weekend and the media went into a frenzy, this Kenyan beauty has been a huge topic on all forms of media be it her flawless fashion or her speeches at the awards. since her breakout role in the “12 years A Slave” film as a supporting actress. To be honest, I am not a Movie person, I have not watched the film to go and blabber about it but after reading all the reviews and critics, I think she did a good job for a first time big role while looking gorgeous too.
Miss Lupita has hit Hollywood and the rest of the world with a bang and of course, that is the best way to do it, this is a lady who was criticized on social media for being too dark skinned and was not going to make it in Hollywood because her looks were not that worth the second look.
And she went and proved them wrong by giving a good performance and winning several awards to just to make it even more real. A gentleman on twitter this morning remarked that while some women are out there pushing their sexuality out for favors and bleaching themselves to look good, Lupita is dark-skinned and does not have an ample bosom for people to say that it was not her skills that got her the awards, he said that one should learn from the Kenyan actress, her skills and the way she has carried herself have helped her get this far and will get even better if she keeps this up. She did not need a sex- tape or to show a lot of skin to get attention, of course this got him a lot of tongue lashing from some of the social media “feminists,” there is truth in what he said, people didn’t like it but he was being honest.
Even if I am not a movie person or #TeamLupita, with the world that we live in that has double standards about how beautiful a woman should be and what helps them make it out there in the big leagues. I am proud of Lupita even if Leonardo DiCaprio did not win an award, I am still happy that a black and beautiful lady out there is shining and showing the world that African women are not what the International media paints us out to be, we are elegant, ambitious, hard-working and beautiful
