New Year….Not So Different Social Media

By emasaba 11 years ago

Happy happy new year, we do understand that you must be tired of seeing that phrase but do tolerate reading it for today, hopefully the year is going very well for us as it is for us and if not, remember today is just day 12 of year so you so many other days to get it right. Everyone has had a chance to make resolutions and plans for their year 2015, laying strategies and setting goals that they hope to meet and grow a little, here are some that you might want to adapt within the course of the year for your social media life.

Web

Network a little more than you did last year: Try to use your social media accounts for something worthwhile other than stalking Kim Kardashian and Yeezy, follow or connect with people that you never thought you could get in touch with, people that are on a level that you are aiming to be. There is nothing wrong with having someone else inspire you to being a better you being it personally or professionally.

You know how you are always on Twitter or Facebook and there are people on your timeline whose posts are irritating or they seem to rant and trolling others all the time, basically they just dampen your moods whenever you see their posts. First of all, do not complain about them because that is so 2014 and secondly just block or mute them or plain unfriend them. Keep negative energy off of your social media because it is very contagious.

Try new social media sites during 2015, did you know that there is more to the internet than just Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, Google and the Pornhub? We know you are shocked, but yeah there is more out there and it’s pretty handy by the way. Some of these sites help build your professional CV like LinkedIn, others horn your hobbies like PinInterest, Tumblr and so many more.

Think before you post on your accounts, the information you post on sites should be minimal, think about if it’s important for the world to know what is happening in your personal life, this will help keep the world out of your business especially the nosy, jobless and idle timeline busybodies that are always waiting for tiny slip-ups to use as a conversation starter.

Be smart, edit all your posts before posting them, 2014 was the year of typos and we all know that… New Vision was on fire, but this year we all want to be lil Miss perfect by minimizing any avoidable mistakes so when you are all excited and in a rush to post something; pause, read through, edit the necessary points then post. Yeah, it looks like a lot of work and tiring but we both know how fast “Grammar Nazis” are always lurking in the shadows waiting to spring onto a typo.

Give yourself some more much needed social media breaks, you know like a social media vacation where you switch off all your social media apps and be more concerned with work, your life and maybe some other very important things that you have been neglecting since you discovered 140 characters. By breaks we do not mean 2 hours off of social media, we mean a week…a month, unless your work is solely based online then, welcome to our world.

Go ahead and be great this year….
